I’m JoAnne Lenart-Weary, often known as the Original One Day Decorator. Based in Waterford, Pennsylvania, I’ve spent 40+ years helping people love where they live and helping pros love how they work. I’m an interior decorator, color expert, stager, educator, and mentor who’s appeared on HGTV and ABC and spoken at industry events across the country.

📖 Who I Am

A lover of all things beautiful and the way your home can make you feel. I teach practical, confidence-building systems that make decorating and color decisions clear, fast, and beautiful—whether you’re a homeowner or a fellow pro. For over 40 years, I've had the pleasure of using my talent to earn a living.

💼 What I Do

I blend hands-on design with teaching. I offer in-person and online consultations, traditional design services, One Day Decorating, color selection, home staging, and business/marketing mentoring. I also host webinars and classes for decorators and stagers, complete with recorded replays and an easy fit call to see if we’re a match.

In 1999, I founded The Decorating & Staging Academy After 15 years, I passed the wand to the talented Sandra Racz, but continue to collaborate with Sandra in building new courses, teaching classes, and helping pros to succeed. Racz at The-DSA, where we train and certify pros nationwide.

🎨 My Frameworks

I love to create practical, repeatable systems that remove guesswork, including a few of my favorites:

* The Confident Color System breaks color down by hue, saturation, and value, so you can plan palettes with intention and use value like Mother Nature. It’s also the backbone of my Confident Color Kits—curated palettes like Shades of Autumn, Coastal Farmhouse, Cashmere Throws, Rocking the Teal, Come On, Get Happy, and Grand Millennial Rose.

* Decorating in the Zone-I created this system when I realized that many only paid attention to horizontal balance and not vertical. By dividing the space into 3 vertical zones, you can capitalize on balance, perception of room size, and more.

*Decorating DNA helps clients understand and discover their style to make faster and on target decisions. Whether your space leans Structured, Simplified, Expressive, Grounded, or Defined, we use that DNA to guide the plan.

*My other Systems include One Day Decorating, the Weekend Decorator, and more.

⚙️ How I Work

Decorating-I move fast without skipping the fundamentals. One room or an entire home, I start with function and flow, then layer color, texture, and the right focal points. My process is collaborative and encouraging—I want you to see what I see and understand why it works, so you can keep making great choices after I’m gone.

Teaching-My classes are available in both group and one on one opportunites, from learn at our leisure online classes and live classes.

Mentoring-With pros, I zero in on marketing clarity, pricing confidence, and client-ready systems. I’m direct, instructive, and always practical.

I love helping people feel confident and joyful about their rooms, their color choices, and their businesses. Teaching keeps me sharp and connected,

I also believe in giving back so am an active volunteer in my community for the Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society and WECAN, a community non-profit.

Teaching others what I had spent years learning!

The birth of HGTV led to a shift. Plus, I embraced technology and had one of the earliest design driven websites, and was a frequent guest (or guide as they were called then) on AOL. Requests started pouring in from people who didn't just want a beautiful room—they wanted to learn how to create one themselves.

For years, I had offered workshops and seminars to DIY Decorators. These course were finessed and went from DIY to PRO level. The launch of my then signature course, One Day Decorating, was the beginning of what is now The Decorating and Staging Academy. Although the talented Sandra Racz took over The-DSA in 2014, I continue to work side by side with her, teaching and developing courses.

Our courses expanded into interior decorating, staging, and our amazing Confident Color System. In later years, we saw the need for a complete marketing and staging courses, as well as niche programs.

I've now had the privilege of training thousands of decorators and stagers across the country, sharing practical, real-world strategies that go far beyond theory. Many have gone on to build flourishing businesses of their own.

THE REALIZATION

It takes more than talent!

Early on, I noticed a pattern. My students could create gorgeous rooms—that part came naturally. But turning that talent into a business? That was a different challenge entirely. Week-long trainings would end, and students would go home and do nothing with what they'd learned.

That's when I understood: it takes more than talent. I set out to not only be able to teach them how to decorate but to turn that talent into a profitable service. I took every marketing and business program I could find and earned my Guerilla Marketing Certification. I loved this approach to marketing as it wasn't about text book marketing but creative and thought provoking ways to building a following, while being budget concious.
